Svetlana’s “Night at the Movies”

Sunday, April 25, 2027 @7pm
Marcus Jewish Community Center of Atlanta (MJCCA)

Tickets coming soon!

About the Artist: Growing up in the Soviet Union, Svetlana found refuge in Moscow’s movie theaters, where life on the screen seemed more magical and free. “Night at the Movies” draws on that experience, bringing together songs from nearly a century of cinema—from Hollywood classics and animated films to French New Wave and Soviet favorites. Through jazz, swing, and personal storytelling, Svetlana explores what connects these songs: dreaming, longing for something more, and finding hope through imagination. Along the way, the program touches on her immigrant journey and the Jewish songwriters and stories woven into film history.

Celebrating Blue Note Records

Saturday, June 12, 2027 @7pm
City Springs Studio Theater

Tickets coming soon!

About the Show: Before Blue Note Records, there were two Jewish friends in Berlin who loved American jazz. After escaping Nazi Germany and reuniting in New York, Alfred Lion and Francis Wolff helped build one of the most influential labels in music history, championing artists including Thelonious Monk, Art Blakey, Horace Silver, Jimmy Smith, Herbie Hancock, and Wayne Shorter.

Through music and storytelling, this evening explores the Jewish experiences behind Lion and Wolff’s work, their relationships with Black American musicians, and the extraordinary recordings they helped create. Following Neranenah’s celebrations of Chess, Atlantic, and Commodore Records, this program continues our exploration of the relationships between Black artists and Jewish producers and entrepreneurs that helped shape American music.
